Imaginactivism: A conversation about Social and Environmental Justice | Eugene, OR
April 27 @ 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm
In this afternoon event Starhawk will be in conversation with Professor Erin Moore, Department of Architecture, and Dr Joan Haran, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Global Fellow, Center for the Study of Women in Society, about her well-loved ecotopian novel The Fifth Sacred Thing.
Starhawk will read key passages from the novel and panelists will reflect on the ways in which it imagines a future in which social and environmental justice are intertwined. They will discuss the kinds of activism portrayed in the novel as well as Starhawk’s own experience with direct action and other forms of organization for social change and environmental regeneration. They will also talk about the ways in which the novel remains relevant nearly 25 years after its first publication.
The reading and conversation will be followed by a book-signing by Starhawk.
This event is sponsored by the UO Center for the Study of Women in Society and the UO Office of Academic Affairs.
